FOCUSING ON DAKOTA LIFE

We know that it takes a community of people working together to help those in need in our area. The purpose of this show is shine a light on those within our local towns who provide special services, or have influence in the decisions in local government. We strive to support these programs and their leadership to better our community.

This weeks episode we had the opportunity to speak with and get to know Mayor Ken Wetz. Mayor Ken is running again for mayor of the town of Newell South Dakota.

Pastor Terri had a chance to talk to Sabrina Harmon the head of the Whatever It Takes Coalition. Sabrina works with the Newell South Dakota school to teach our kids real life skills, such as mental health, anger control, and the health risk of drugs, alcohol, tobacco. The coalition works with every group within the community to reach kids.

Pastor Terri had the opportunity to speak with Mary Koens, the Director of The Artemis House in Spearfish South Dakota. The Artemis House is a shelter that provides support for those who have been in abusive relationships. Mary Koens was able to give us insight into the help in our community that her organization gives for families dealing with abuse.

Pastor Terri had the great opportunity to speak to Neil Vollmer of the Newell, South Dakota Lions Club to get some incite into the organization. Many do not know how the Lions Club helps our community. We thank Neil for joining us and assisting us get to know our local Lions Club

Pastor Terri asked Brother Fred Wilson, founder of the local chapter of Cowboys For Christ, about his upcoming event.

 

We are hosting a fundraiser for the Butte County Ambulance Service of Newell. Join us Labor Day September 4th from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for lunch at the NVN Senior Center. The drawing for the side of beef raffle will be drawn then.

Pastor Terri had the great opportunity to speak with Pastor Jerome Slides Off from Eagle Butte, SD. Pastor Jerome is a minister reaching the largest Lakota Sioux reservation Cheyenne River. Jerome's testimony of how God reached out and brought him through his toughest times to be a witness to his own people is a absolute miracle.

Sherry Hocking is part of a new program in Newell, SD. Community Health Worker Program is a bridge between patients and health providers. Sherry explains how the program works and what it will do for people in need within our community.
